The Rising of the Shield Hero

The Rising of the Shield Hero (盾の勇者の成り上がり Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari)

I have never particularly read much light novels before. Or perhaps an official translation at least. My previous attempt never really got me into the genre. So, back in November in a whim I picked up the first volume of " The rising of the shield hero" . I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but for the most...I am glad I did.
Light novels have a certain peculiarity to them. They spin, great complex stories, but at the same times isn't too verbose about it's story. This is probably what made me read through all the officially translated 9 volumes available out . The premise iself isn't the most orginal , basically normal guys get summoned as heroes to this Fantasy world which also plays out like an RPG... Sounds like  SAO, eh?  Well, that's where the similarity ends. The protagonist , a.k.a The shield hero, gets framed for rape gets ostracized and literally gets thrown into the gutter. Reduced to a penniless criminal, and an outcast everything that could possibly go wrong happens to him. The story sets up an initial arc as a revenge story and goes on to become so much more. The story of a guy who in his own quest for revenge becomes the hero truly deserving of the name.
The characters and the world building is excellent with Raphtalia ( the hero's traveling companion), becoming one of the most well written female characters of the Anime/manga world till date. Strong, independent, with unwavering loyalty. She's the complete opposite of the cliched Anime girls that we know.
There's a many other characters too which play part in this incredible journey.
Though, there's certainly times I felt that the author could do more do explain some of the inconsistencies of the world, rather than leave the reader to figure it.
Coming, back to the writing end of the story, it's definitely not verbose but the official English translation gets caught up in whether to use Japanese honorifics or yet. The volumes keep see sawing on that, and that's something they haven't fixed yet. But does it get boring? Nope... Absolutely not. The novel is a full on page turner and there is always something going on throughout the story, and I am looking forward to the next official release
And, of course there is also an anime adaption in the works which should release  this year.

Alternatively, there's also a Manga to read which follows the light novel's story.

Kolkata Anime Club(KAC)

The 12th of December saw the Birth of the first official anime club of Kolkata. After nearly a month of haggling with the dates on Facebook,we finally managed to choose a date to have our first meet. Many had decided to attend, but some pulled out later with the Facebook event page showed only 7 people attending!Nevertheless we decided to carry on on hold the meet as scheduled. The meet was held on a lazy sunday afternoon at a well known mall Kolkata i.e South City.I arrived there a good half an hour early and made my way to the food court where the meet was supposed to be held. After a bit of searching ,I found the KAC members seated near the KFC outlet. Our club president Nia(Nyaa~Chan as we fondly call her ^_^),was the first to recognise me and I soon enough I found myself seated among a small and dedicated otakuish group.10 mins later and after the arrival of a few more members  we started off our meet dot on time.."Introductions Please" ,as Nia said, and I was the first one to ...

Relife

So, it's finally over. Relife officially ended with it's 222nd chapter.  Relife was a manga I read by accident tbh. Not in the sense that I randomly picked it up, but it in the sense that the manga turned into something completely different than what I had intended it to be. With the premise set up to guiltrip people who are in the late 20's, relife did an excellent job of this throughout. Though, there were many times the story's pacing and direction was all over the place. Not to mention the science behind the Relife experiment, which when explained was honestly borderline stupid. But, what Relife great was it's characters, and the recurring theme of regrets . This all came into place especially in the last arc of the Manga where the mangaka did a stellar job giving some excellent tear jerking moments and despairing the readers of the idea of a forbidden/unachievable romance. It was romance done right in a Manga, something that I haven't seen in a long time. ...

Steins; Gate 0- A Dark Tale of Okabe Rinatarou That Time Forgot

Steins; Gate 0- A Dark Tale of Okabe Rinatarou That Time Forgot . ( REVIEW IS TO BE READ ONLY BY STEINS; GATE FANS, AS THE POST MAY CONTAIN MILD SPOILERS FROM THE ORGINAL ANIME/VN. IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN STEINS; GATE ,BUT YOU HAVE SEEN TOKYO GHOUL, YOU REALLY...REALLY... NEED TO IMPROVE YOUR SHIT TASTE IN ANIME) Ok, firstly it’s been a long time since I posted any sort of reviews as I consider myself nothing less of lazy. But, someone who’s an avid fan of the series I could not resist to post a review of this. Steins; Gate 0 isn’t actually a sequel to Steins; Gate. It actually serves as a midquel to the original show/VN and fills in a lot of details that probably did not cross our mind. In terms of where the events of Steins; Gate 0 fits in the timeline, you all will need to jog your memory right towards where Okabe fails in his first attempt to open a path to Steins; Gate and is completely distraught. At that moment Okabe receives a video message from himself f...
